Indian mythology is vast and more fascinating than you could ever imagine. Here is one such example- if you think that Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya were the only sons of Lord Shiva and Parvati, then we break this myth. Lord Shiva had 6 sons in all, and amongst them, the most notorious one was Andhaka. He tried to harass and abduct Parvati, because she was so beautiful! We dig out Andhaka’s untold story, that finds mention in various texts, including Matsya Purana, Linga Purana and Shiva Purana.

It is said that every drop of Andhakasura’s blood touching the ground would create another mighty demon.

So Shiva created a goddess by his divine power – Devi Yogeswari –who helped the gods overpower Andhaka. Ultimately, Lord Shiva’s struck him with his trident in the chest and held him up. After a thousand years in the suspended position, Andhakasura  realised his mistake and prayed for forgiveness.
Siva blessed him to lead a reformed life among the ganas who accompany him.
