A controversy broke at Taj Mahal when a visiting contestant of the Supermodel International 2017 was forced to remove her scarf bearing religious symbols and words 'Jai Shri Ram'.

The officials of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and CISF asked the model, a foreigner, to remove the saffron colour scarf and later said they acted as per the rules and an unnecessary controversy is being created over the incident.

The woman was one of the 34 models from different countries, who are in India to compete for the crown of the Supermodel International Contest.

After the incident, members of Hindu Jagran Manch (HJM) and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged a protest outside ASI office at Mall Road in Agra on Thursday.
